JUNIOR HIGH

At HCS, we exceed state and national standards by providing a higher level of learning and content; our standards aim for higher and broader goals, considering the state standards and national standards to be a minimum. As a system, we will routinely evaluate our schools’ academic plan and determine to what degree it matches, exceeds, or falls short of the CCSS. We will prioritize the important standards and ensure that they are being met and/or exceeded. Ultimately, at HCS, we will adhere uncompromisingly to our mission, and will continue to make educational decisions that are consistent with our Christian worldview and our Expected School-wide Learning Results (The Big 5), providing a robust and rigorous academic plan at every level designed to meet the needs of each individual learner within our system.

The entire experience at HCS is designed to be a cohesive program that uses education as a vehicle to help students know Christ personally, think biblically, and positively impact their communities for Christ. 

In addition to meeting the social-emotional needs of our students, developing a Christian worldview in each of our students continues to be central to our mission. We strive to provide multiple opportunities for student participation in activities that promote spiritual formation and a Christian worldview. In addition to daily Bible instruction, weekly chapel participation, and Biblical integration across content areas, participation in local outreaches via donation drives, Faith in Action projects, and campus-wide activities such as Missions Week and the Matthew 25 Challenge through World Vision International continue to provide a wide range of opportunities for students to view the world from God’s perspective, applying their faith to everyday life.

Heights Christian Schools provide a challenging, coherent and relevant curriculum for each student through the implementation of programs and mechanisms that encourage broad participation and clearly stated objectives. We select and implement research-based curriculum that is designed to meet or exceed the state and national standards while also ensuring that it does not conflict with our mission statement and goals as a Christian school. In conjunction with a rigorous academic portfolio, we provide a wide variety of educational enhancements and supplemental materials.

Heights has been a second family for the past 10 years, from our son's first day of TK to his last day of junior high school.  He began as a squirmy four-year-old little boy who couldn't sit still long enough to finish his work and has emerged as a strong young man who has a deep love for the Lord and for people. We would do it all over again in a heartbeat!

All students participate in the Accelerated Reader (AR) program. At the start of the year, students are assessed by their English teacher to determine their independent reading level. Students are then encouraged to select a book (from the school library or public library) within their level and read it at their own pace.

Each quarter, teachers work with students to set an AR point goal that is challenging yet attainable. After reading each book, students take a quick comprehension quiz online and earn AR points. Each book read is worth a certain number of AR points and each point earned gets students one step closer to meeting their quarterly point goal.

Parents can monitor their child’s reading progress by viewing their child’s scores and AR points through Home Connect. You will need your child’s AR username and password, which can be obtained from your child’s teacher. Home Connect Login
