INFANT & TODDLER CARE

Our Infant and Toddler Program provides excellent care for babies ages six weeks to two years. Specifically trained and uniquely equipped to work with our youngest of students, our infant and toddler caregivers work hard to provide the next best thing to home - a loving, nurturing, and safe environment to grow and explore in.

Students in our program benefit from a variety of rich experiences that foster a sense of wonder while also supporting individual development - emotionally, physically cognitively, and verbally.

We recognize that being separated from your baby can be difficult for both of you and we consider it a true privilege to partner with you in making this a joyful experience.

Program Details

Overview

Infants and toddlers begin our program at many different stages. In order to meet each child where he/she currently is, we offer a variety of different of toys and activities in each room. While indoors, each baby benefits from the use of swings, large crawl mats, activity gardens, bouncy seats, and more. Hand toys such as rattles, balls, plush toys, and other sound makers are always available. These toys are cleaned between each use and rotated to ensure that our babies get to experience new activities during their time at school. In addition to indoor play, once our babies are able to independently sit up, their environment expands as they venture outside during each day. While securely buckled into our four and six seat buggies, our babies can be frequently found on walks around campus, exploring new sights and sounds around them.

One of the unique purposes and privileges of our preschool is our ability to introduce children to the Bible and to the person of Jesus Christ.

In Relationships
Our teachers and staff are to demonstrate the love of Jesus to our preschoolers, parents, and one another. Our teachers and staff apply biblical truths wherever possible in all their interactions.

In Academics
Our goal is to present each academic topic in light of the existence of God. Our teachers are responsible for integrating the concepts being taught with biblical truth.

Scripture Theme
Each year, we choose a scripture theme that provides a unified direction for our chapels and that we, as a staff, use to point our preschoolers and families to a relationship with the Lord. This theme is introduced each Fall and then interwoven throughout the school year.

Infant Development

We carefully hold, rock, and sing to our babies. We speak to them gently and constantly about the world around them. We explain to our babies what we are doing when we are out on a walk, eating, and changing diapers. We read books to them with big picture and bright colors and play different kinds of music throughout each day. We give them soft toys to hold and feel, and provide toys that make noises.

The babies in our care have a space to roll, scoot, crawl, and eventually begin to pull up to a standing position. Our comfortable, peaceful infant rooms provides a wonderful environment that lovingly fosters each baby’s emotional development!

As a first time parent, I was incredibly nervous as I prepared to leave my little girl in the care of someone I really did not know. However, as soon as I met the infant teachers and saw how they interacted with her and I, I felt such a peace. The ladies at HCS are truly incredible and the care that she receives while at school is top-notch! It is the next best thing to being home!

Toddler Development

We cannot say enough great things about the toddler program. Our daughter's teachers are amazing and feel like family. She is not even two and can already count to ten and identify most colors. Toddlers are information seekers and explorers by design. They are constantly taking in information about our world as they strive for independence and autonomy. In addition to providing a nurturing and safe environment, our goal is to encourage these newly independent children toward greater self-confidence and provide important developmental opportunities that will lead the way toward their achieving new skills. Each day is planned to help each child reach their full potential in all areas including language and literacy, science, creative expression, and physical, social, & emotional development.

Developmental Area	Activities & Goals
Language & Literacy	Language at this age is transforming from grunts and coos to actual words and even multiple-word phrases. Our toddler room provides a language-rich environment that encourages each child’s progress toward achievement of key developmental milestones. Our teachers continually model language, expand on children’s phrases, and engage each child in rich, age-appropriate conversation. We aim to foster a love of books through stories read aloud, expand independent speaking and understanding through daily conversation, and assist in the development of skills necessary for language acquisition.
Science	We stomp in puddles, investigate the sand and water table, watch birds in flight and so much more. By constantly asking “what if” questions and encouraging exploration, our teachers help to build a foundation in which children become skilled observers, inquisitive investigators, and life-long researchers.
Creative Expression	Opportunities for creative expression encourage the development of many important skills in our students and help to activate the other side of their brain. It might look like paint splotches on a page or a raggedy old costume but, in fact, it is an exercise in raising cognitive development, supporting self-expression and nurturing the creative side of each individual student.
Physical, Social, & Emotional Development	God created each of us with a distinct purpose. We each have different talents and abilities and one of our goals is to foster and help further develop the gifts that God has already given to each child. Their natural sense of curiosity provides the perfect platform for developing a strong sense of personal identity and basic understanding of his or her place in a larger community.

Communication

Maintaining strong communication with our parents is something that our preschool strives to do well. Our preschool uses a variety of applications available to keep our parents informed and ensure that the lines of communication are always open.

Infant/Toddler Reports

Each day, parents will be asked to complete an Infant/Toddler Report providing our caregivers with important information such as what time their baby last ate and slept as well as any special instructions for the day. When the parent arrives to pick their baby up, they will receive the form back with all of the day’s information filled in. This report tells parents what their baby ate, how long they slept, and their diapering results for the day.

Phone Calls

Personal Phone Calls: It’s important to us that we never lose that personal touch with our parents. When appropriate and as often as possible, we speak to our parents directly.

Automated Phone Calls: On occasion, our preschool will send out pre-recorded messages from the director or other school staff concerning important preschool news. Our automated system will also be used to notify parents in the unlikely event of a school-wide emergency.

Licensing

Our infant and toddler programs are licensed by the state of California, Department of Social Services. The California Department of Social Services has the right to interview children and/or staff and has the right to inspect and audit childcare records relating to the operation of our preschool without prior consent (Title 22, 101200).
