WE BELIEVE the Bible to be the inspired, the only infallible, authoritative, inerrant Word of God (2 Timothy 3:15; 2 Peter 1:21)
We help our students to discover, identify and develop their God-given gifts, talents and abilities through rigorous academics, supportive educators, and a wide selection of enriching activities from athletics to the arts. In each of these areas, education is the vehicle that is used to point children to the Creator of the universe, and to communicate to them God’s amazing plan and purpose for their lives. It is our desire that each one would come to know Jesus as Savior, and desire to honor and serve Him with their lives.
Student support starts at home. We encourage regular communication between our teachers, administrators and our students’ families. We make every effort to accommodate each student’s individual needs and learning style while encouraging them to explore and develop their unique interests and talents. Our K-8th grade campuses offer extended and drop-in daycare so students can participate in after-school activities and parents can be assured their kids are safe and happy.
Our teachers love to communicate directly with parents and do so as often as possible. Elementary teachers send home a weekly classroom newsletter. We also send out a monthly school newsletter and regularly update our social media channels. Additionally, the ParentsWeb portal is a great way to connect and to stay informed of your child’s homework, grades, and tuition.
LEARN MORE“Every pupil, after he has been fully trained,
will be like his teacher.”
LUKE 6:40
Each week, we select our teacher features so you can get to know each staff member personally. Learn more about their philosophy, work at Heights, and core values. Check our Teacher Feature tab to learn more.
LEARN MOREOne of the unique purposes and privileges of our school ministry is to partner with parents, providing each child with the best possible educational experience, teaching them to love learning, providing them with ample opportunities to find and use their talents and abilities, and preparing them to be life-long learners. We want our students to know how greatly they are loved by the Lord, and to desire to share their faith with others, and to serve Him with their lives.
LEARN MOREStudent safety is of the utmost importance; a topic that is under continuous review. We are consistently looking for ways to ensure that our school campuses are secure, and that our faculty and staff are trained and prepared for any emergency situation.
Faculty meetings include safety topics to review campus plans for crisis prevention and plans for protocols and decisive actions should an emergency event occur. The focus is on the prevention, management and aftermath of a crisis designed to strengthen safety at school.
Full campus emergency drills conducted monthly (fire, earthquake, disaster and/or lockdown)
Cooperation with local fire, police and other first responders. These officials serve as observers during drills (providing impressions and feedback) as well as leading training sessions for our staff during school in-services.
Safety Table Talks designed to lead campus personnel through various emergency scenarios, giving specific attention to individual staff response immediately as an event occurs and in the minutes/hours as an event unfolds.
HCS subscribes to Connect 5, a mass notification service. Connect 5, as well as email updates through ParentsWeb, allow us to keep parents informed of developing situations on campus whenever needed.
For the safety of our students and staff, all volunteers on campus must complete a Volunteer Application process that includes a confidential background check. For a copy of the Volunteer Packet, refer to the Parent Portal.
Background checks for volunteers are automatically performed annually.
To maximize student safety, it is the goal of HCS to maintain closed campuses. Only enrolled students may be on campus during hours of operation. All visitors must check-in at the School Office to obtain permission, and a Visitor Pass in order to visit.
All exterior classroom doors are kept locked throughout the day when children are in classrooms.
To properly secure the front office and entrances we combine building design, video surveillance, guest management systems, policies, procedures and staff training.
At Heights Christian Schools, we believe that every child is created in the image of God. We believe God created every person for His glory and that each child is uniquely and wonderfully made. God has created some children who learn rapidly and easily while others might struggle more with learning and find school difficult.
HCS has made the commitment to minister to the children God brings to our schools and, whenever possible, provide each child the support needed to thrive academically.
This commitment has led to the development of our Success Program. The goal of the HCS Success Program is to give academic support to the children who are having difficulty achieving academic success in the regular classroom.
In addition to weekly tutoring sessions, students enrolled in the Success Program may receive the following services:
Level 1 – Intervention
Help for students who are struggling with learning to read fluently, and/or gaps of knowledge or skill. Generally includes one session per week.
Level 2 – Tutoring
Strategic tutoring designed to meet the specific area of need; most commonly math, reading, and writing. Generally includes two or three sessions per week.
Level 3 – Academic Support
Alternative multi-tiered educational plan designed to help students having difficulty in achieving success with grade-level curriculum. Generally includes four or more sessions per week.
Our schools have partnered with Turning Point Counseling in an effort to provide our families with a resource for emotional, spiritual, and mental health. HCS hires to its mission. All employees are first and foremost ministers of the gospel, called of God to lead others to Christ, and to use their gifts, talents and abilities for God’s glory (Colossians 1:18, John 1:17, Colossians 3:17, I John 3:3, 7). In the Teacher Features, our amazing faculty and staff members are highlighted, as we celebrate their love and dedication to HCS and the families served.
The first Teacher Feature this week is Rachel Buttrey from our HCS-La Mirada Campus. Rachel has been an employee of HCS for 3 years. She is currently our 2nd grade teacher but has also been a Teacher Assistant and Substitute at the Brea Campus. On her spare time, Rachel enjoys being outside, camping, hiking, cooking and spending time with her family and friends
Rachel’s favorite Bible verse is Roman 5:1-2
“Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand.”
The next Teacher Feature this week is Celina Moreno from the HCS-Brea Preschool. Celina has been an employee of HCS for 9 years. She is currently a Pre-Kindergarten Teacher but has worked with all preschool-age groups. On her spare time, Celina enjoys spending time with her family and hiking.
Her favorite Bible verse is Nehemiah 8:10
“The joy of the Lord is my strength.”
WE BELIEVE the Bible to be the inspired, the only infallible, authoritative, inerrant Word of God (2 Timothy 3:15; 2 Peter 1:21)
WE BELIEVE that there is one God, Creator of the heavens and the earth (Genesis 1:1), eternally existent in three persons—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (Genesis 1:1; Matthew 28:19; John 10:30)
WE BELIEVE in the deity of Christ (Isaiah 9:6, John 1:1-14, John 10:33, John 14:9); His virgin birth (Isaiah 7:14; Matthew 1:23; Luke 1:35); His sinless life (Hebrews 4:15; Hebrews 7:26); His miracles (John 2:11); His vicarious and atoning death (1 Corinthians 15:3; Ephesians 1:7; Hebrews 2:9); His resurrection (John 11:25; 1 Corinthians 15:4; Peter 1:3-4; Revelation 1:18) His Ascension to the right hand of the Father (Mark 16:19); and His personal return in power and glory (Acts 1:11; Revelation 19:11)
WE BELIEVE that “God said, ‘Let Us make man in Our image according to Our likeness... So God created man in His own image... male and female He created them.” Every human life is designed by God before conception, “being yet unformed” (Genesis 1:26-27, Psalm 139:16)
WE BELIEVE that life begins at conception as every person is “made in secret,” with sacred infinite value, being “fearfully and wonderfully made” by our Creator. Human life is of inestimable worth in all its dimensions, including pre-born babies, the aged, the physically or mentally challenged, and every other stage or condition from conception through natural death (Psalm 139:13-16). Because of the sacred value of each human life, our loving God demands, “... do not kill the innocent and righteous” (Genesis 1:26-27; Exodus 20:13; Exodus 23:7)
WE BELIEVE that it is not the divinely intended prerogative of people who are created by God to redefine His creation of humankind as being other than male and female. Regarding God’s creation of male and female, Jesus said, “Therefore, what God has joined together, let not man separate.” Redefinition of genders is contrary to God’s will as expressed in the Bible, given that men and women are both intended by God to reflect His image and nature. Marriage involving both genders is also a biblical type of Christ as the groom and the Church as His pure bride (Matthew 19:4-6; Matthew 25:1- 13; Revelation 22:17)
WE BELIEVE in the absolute necessity of regeneration by the Holy Spirit for salvation because of the exceeding sinfulness of human nature; and that people are justified on the single ground of faith in the shed blood of Christ; and that only by God’s grace and through faith alone are we saved; and that “there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved” other than the name of Jesus Christ (John 3:16-19; John 5:24; John 14:6; Acts 4:12; Romans 3:23; Romans 5:8-9; Romans 10:9-10; Ephesians 2:8-10; Titus 3:5; 1 John 1:9; Revelation 3:20)
WE BELIEVE that every person should “love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength... and your neighbor as yourself.” Accordingly, Christians are to afford every person love, compassion, kindness, respect, and dignity regardless of differences involving beliefs, cultures, or status (Matthew 22:31; Mark 12:12-28; Luke 10:27; John 3:17; Galatians 5:22-23; Philippians 2:3; James 2:1-13)
WE BELIEVE in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit, by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a godly life and that the spiritual unity of all believers exists as one in our Father God and our Lord Jesus Christ (John 17:20-23; Romans 8:9; Romans 8:13-14; 1 Corinthians 3:16; 1 Corinthians 6:19-20; 1 Corinthians 12:12-13; Galatians 3:26-28; Ephesians 2:8-9; Ephesians 4:30; Ephesians 5:18)
WE BELIEVE in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost; they that are saved unto the resurrection of life; and they that are lost unto the resurrection of condemnation (John 5:28-29; Revelation 20:12-15)
